ERF Wireless Submits First-Round Application for $24.6 Million of Broadband Stimulus Funding in a Two-State Region

Company Expands Information in Oil & Gas Section of Corporate Website

LEAGUE CITY, Texas, Sep 10, 2009 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- ERF Wireless (OTCBB:ERFW), a leading provider of enterprise-class wireless and broadband products and services, announced today that the company has submitted a first-round Broadband Initiatives Program (BIP) loan/grant application for Louisiana and parts of East Texas that totals $24.6 million.

According to Dr. H. Dean Cubley, CEO of ERF Wireless, "This is exclusively a 'last mile' application that covers over 50 service areas in the most rural and economically challenged regions of these states with a population size in the regions covered of approximately 591,346. Parts of the region covered also include the oil and gas region of the Haynesville Shale in East Texas and Western Louisiana. Broadband services in these communities would also benefit public safety, health care, education and economic development, as well as the general population."

Additional BIP applications in conjunction with other applicants that specify ERF Wireless as the lead vendor and operator for the "last mile" portion of their networks have also been submitted for select communities in the Texas Panhandle, Central Texas and the Texas Gulf Coast. These combined applications will target broadband projects that will benefit a population of at least 21,681 and focus on improving education, health care, economic development and government services.

"All of our applications highlight ERF Wireless' extensive experience in providing rural broadband, so we believe we have a significant advantage," said Dr. Cubley. "We already have technical support in these areas and consider ourselves to be 'shovel ready' to act on the projects as soon as they're approved."

In other news, ERF Wireless announced that the content of the Oil & Gas section on its corporate website has recently been expanded to highlight the continued growth and diversification of that division. The new section covers details on the company's O&GNet(TM), its network design and implementation services, the company's unique Mobile Broadband Trailer System (MBTS) and VoIPNet(TM), the company's comprehensive voice telecommunications solution. The new section also provides information on the iPerformer, available through ERF Wireless' exclusive contract with Schlumberger, a map noting the company's current and pending broadband coverage and a white paper detailing how ERF Wireless collaborated with Apache Corporation to deliver a wireless alternative to rig operators' conventional satellite and landline communications systems.
